Pink Khador in Action!

Last Thursday and Today I was able to get a few games in with the Black & Pinks.  The did well, until today.

Thursday saw two wins and a loss, but the two games tonight, well, let's just say I was reminded just how disgusting Bane Thrallls with Tartarus can be.

15pt Pink Army

Well, here it is folks!  A fully painted 15pt army in Pink!

I couldn't stage them well in my light box, so I had to punt.  I used the same setup that I used when I took the Skorne Full Army shots not too long ago.  Unfortunately, the Butcher hides behind the Shocktroopers a little too well, so I had to elevate him.  My Master's Brush Cleaner container was the perfect height, and some paper towel nicely hid it from view.

There are still a few details to polish up on the Shocktroopers.  I haven't done anything to the Khador Anvils on their shoulderpads, nor the extra spikes on the Kapitan's shoulderpad.  I also need to pick out all the screw heads with silver.

The 'jacks could also use some free-hand on them, but I'm not sure what to do!  An Anvil would seem appropriate, since there's no anvils anywhere on the plastic kits.  Should I free hand a pink one?  White?

Shocktroopers WIP3

Worked on metallics tonight.  This part really brings the scheme into focus.  While the black is unhighlighted and the metallics are a bit sloppy, you can really see the balance among the colors.  I really think the scheme works!

Hooray!  How I'm going to do a full unit of 5 + a few solos in the next two weeks, I don't know...

Tomorrow I'm running a demo for an interested new player, but hopefully I'll still have time to clean up the sloppy metallics, and wash / highlight the metallics.  That leaves basing and highlighting black for Wednesday, for the game night Thursday!

Send positive thoughts, so I can get them done in time and have awesome action pictures!

Shocktroopers WIP2

Spent more time today on the Shocktroopers.  I have the pinks highlighted up to the penultimate layer - I'll save the pure Carnal Pink edging for later.

At this point, the models are ready for metallics, followed by black highlighting.

Shocktroopers WIP

Put in a few hours on the shocktroopers.  Sadly, not as much progress as I'd like, but then again, the pink basecoat is actually 4 coats on three medium based models.  *shrug*

Pink 'jacks WIP 2

I had some serious time to work on 'jacks tonight, so during three Battlestar Galactica Episodes and the newest Glee Episode, I got all the blacks done (except for the inner part of the legs, which I'll get later) as well as almost all the highlights on the pink.

I also got a fair bit of work done on the heads, and layed down some brass in the only areas that will get any:  face guards and steam stack guards.

I have to knock out as much as possible tomorrow night in order to be ready for Thursday.  After tonight's progress, I'm fairly certain that I'll be ready to rumble!

Pink 'Jacks WIP 1

Had some time to work on the Destroyer and Juggernaut tonight.  I painted the arms pink, and was able to lay down the two darkest highlights on all the edges before calling it quits.  Tomorrow, I'll clean up the pink splashover, and get working on blacks and metallics.

I'm under the gun for these models, I want them done by Wednesday night so that I have a fully painted battlegroup for the portals event Thursday night.

Pink Butcher - Done!

Put the last touches on the Butcher tonight, right under the 1 week deadline.  Next week - a pair of warjacks, preferably done before Thursday.  Wish me luck!

Pink Butcher Nearly Complete

Worked on Butch a little last night after a game of League of Legends.  LoL is cutting into my painting time, and I really need to just play one game a night, instead of 2 or 3.  Feels good to play a video game again though.

Anyway, got some metallics mostly finished, and got 90% of Lola done.  I'm trying to integrate some blue onto the blade, but I'm not sure how.

I didn't get to fully highlight the coat metallics, since the Badab Black wash wasn't drying fast enough.  I'll finish that up tonight, do the base and finish off all the metallics.  I also think I may do his face plate black, instead of some metallic color.  Or, I'll do it bronze, just to bring in that token steampunk flavor.

Pink Butcher WIP

Got to sleep in today, which was awesome.  Also put in about an hour at the gym, trying to drop this spare tire...  Because I did weights today, my arms were a bit shaky, so I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped.

However, I basically ironed out all the pinks on Butcher, got the fur done, and his face.  All that's left on him are metallics, blacks, leathers and the base.  AKA the other half of him...

There are a few tidbits I'll fix.  The brightest highlight on the little shield doesn't go all the way to the top.  The grill parts on his belly need some highlights.  I'd also like to find a way to fit pink onto his gun.  The stock maybe?

Slow-Grow Plans

Thanks to Tropical Storm Lee, I'm stuck at home tonight, rather than out rolling dice.  At least I get to do some laundry!   Yay?

Studio Butcher1 (2009 Sculpt)

Anyway, since I can't work on my Paint it Pink army yet (League starts Saturday!), I figured instead I would go over my plans for the league with regards to list construction and model selection.

Our league consists of four two week sections, each with a different point level for the army.  The first two weeks, players are limited to a warcaster and 'jacks or beasts, and must be between 9 and 11 points.  The next two weeks, the battlegroup only limitation drops, and we're at 15 pts.  Then 25 and finally 35.

Since my goal is to run Butcher1's theme force, I need two units of Man-O-Wars, four solos and three warjacks with no ranged weapons.  At the same time I'm painting Khador, I'd love to knock out the battlebox for demos.  Good thing I've magnetized the 'jack chassis!

Paint it Pink Test Scheme

This weekend's project was to iron out the Black and Pink Khador scheme for my Paint it Pink army.

I ended up stopping by LGS Huzzah Hobbies, and picking up some P3 paints: Murderous Magenta, Carnal Pink and Shining Gold.  I also snagged a Windsor & Newton 7 size 3 brush, which proved to be awesome while base coating. It has a huge reservoir to hold the paint and really gave me a smooth basecoat on the large surfaces of the MoW.

Enough chit-chat, here's the model, a Man-O-War Demolition Corp grunt:

The pink areas are two coats of P3 Murderous Magenta over a GW Foundation Astronomicon Grey base (so that the pink didn't have to try and cover the black primer).  I then used a mixture of 3:1 P3 Murderous Magenta and Carnal Pink as a starting place for the layering.  The largest layer (50% of the surface area) was 1:1 Murderous Magenta and that mixture. The next layer (25%) was pure mixture.  I then highlighted the edges with 1:1 mixture and P3 Carnal Pink, with corner highlights of pure Carnal Pink.

The black areas were done the exact same way, substituting P3 Coal Black for Murderous Magenta and P3 Frostbite for Carnal Pink.

The original plan was to make him a more bubblegum pink, however my wife suggested I try the hot pink of the Murderous Magenta first and see how it looked.  She was right (as usual), I think the hot pink looks pretty damn good.

The Ice Maul was a base of GW Ice Blue, followed by 2:1 Ice Blue to  GW Skull White, with 1:1 Ice Blue to Skull White in the very center.  The side parts were drybrushed with GW Enchanted Blue, and then a thin line of GW Regal Blue.  I then did just a bit of free hand to get those blue spikes pointing towards the center of the weapon.

Skorne Group Pictures

I got those pesky Swordsmen done today, and I must say, those are the most detailed models ever.  Holy cow.  Just when I thought I was done and could relax, I'd realize I needed to go highlight all the black.  Then I'd forgotten to paint the pommels of their swords.  Then I noticed those big horn things on their one shoulder pad.  These things never end!

Using basic speed painting techniques really helped.  Work on one color, and do everything with the big brush first, then go back through on the same color with the small brush to get the smaller details.  Switching brushes on every models just eats up time.  Washes were also my friend.

Anyway, here's the majority of my Hexeris T3 force, all painted up!

After those swordsmen, I need a break from Skorne!  Our local group has a Slow Grow league starting in a week or two, and I'm doing Khador.  I'm doing a black and pink theme, and since I'm doing Butcher1's theme force, It will also work for Clash of the Titans!  The pink was chosen in support of PG_Wold's Paint it Pink:

The 2011 Paint It Pink painting contest is designed to help promote breast cancer awareness through the miniature wargame hobby. Simply paint one miniature or an entire army using pink as a prominent color, and enter your work into any appropriate categories.

I think big, burly Khador in pink will be fun, as well as support a good cause.  It's also a theme force for Clash of the Titans, and will be a great vehicle for the Slow Grow League.  Lastly, I should be able to paint the majority of my plastic Khador battlebox in the process, which gives me another demo tool.  Yay for ... three birds with one stone?

I've got a spare Man-O-War Demolition Corp model I've assembled and primed, and I'll be using him as a test model for the paint scheme.  The scheme will use mostly p3 paints also, which I'm rather excited about.  Look for pictures of the test model soon!
